Ambassador Stuart Bernstein
Stuart Bernstein was sworn in as Ambassador to Denmark on August 16, 2001 and served through January 2005. As Chairman of the Bernstein Companies, Stuart Bernstein was a recognized leader in real estate development, investment and management in the Mid-Atlantic region, with the focus of his business efforts centered in Washington, DC. Ambassador Bernstein also has had a distinguished career serving many charitable causes. His efforts in the community have earned him recognition and many awards. Ambassador Bernstein is a graduate of American University and was a member of the Board of Trustees of that institution. He also served on numerous other boards, including the Weizman Institute of Science. Ambassador Bernstein was appointed by President George H.W. Bush as a Commissioner of the International Cultural and Trade Center in 1991. The following year, in recognition of his achievements, President George H. W. Bush appointed him as a Trustee of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in 1992, where he served until he was appointed Ambassador to Denmark in 2001. Currently, he serves on the Board of Directors of two Danish based corporations; Terma, A/S and Pihl & Son A/S. He and his wife, Wilma, have three grown children and eleven grandchildren.
